Time to Curl up with a Good Book…

Every year, I receive a few books for Christmas. I love it because friends and family have selected book they think I’ll adore and as I read each – I think of them as well. Here is my stack from December 25th and a little about each…

H is for Hawk. I’ve heard a lot about this book and was delighted to receive it. It was a top 10 NYT Book Review Book in 2015 and the true story of one woman’s journey through the pain following the death of her beloved father as she trains a hawk.

Dear Fahrenheit 451. This captured me right away. Love letters, or break-up letters, to books? Yes, please!!

The Stranger in the Woods: The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit. I recently heard of this one and was intrigued. It’s the story of a man who lived alone for 27 years in deep in the woods in Maine. He was only found when caught stealing food from a nearby house. I’ll let you know…

So “the weather outside is frightful…” and it’s the perfect season to curl up with a good book… Did you receive any books this holiday season? What are you most looking forward to reading?

Thanks. Katherine

  1. I used to receive books for Christmas but now I usually receive gift cards which I use to buy ebooks. This works better for me as my bookshelves are completely full.

  2. Katherine, I am so glad to see someone else from our circle recommend H is for Hawk. I absolutely adored this book. I have both the kindle and audio version. I was so touched by the tale, I thought perhaps it was due to my love of falconry. It is one of the most amazing adventures…but the underlying story and the emotions it evoked still linger with me. It’s been about a year since I read it and I still think of it now and then. Thank you for mentioning it.

  3. Oddly, my friends and family always give me books, too 😉 I think my favorite this year is (and I don’t have it with me and there is a cat in my lap so I don’t have the exact title) one that has Jane Austen quotes organized by topic. I can see myself putting that to very good use 🙂

  4. I hope you enjoy the books you received for Christmas. I requested some Austenesque books for Christmas / Hanukkah and did receive a few of them as well as some Amazon money that I used to buy a few of the ones I didn’t get. I received “Longbourn’s Unexpected Matchmaker”, “Assumed Engagement”, & “Darcy’s Voyage”, as well as a few non Austen Books including “The Captain’s Disgraced Lady” & “One Candlelit Christmas Anthology”. I used some of my Amazon money to buy some of the Austen Authors books (His Inconvenient Choice, A Very Mary Christmas, & Discovering Mr. Darcy) that I didn’t get. I hope everyone else got a few good books for the holidays. Happy Reading everyone!

    • So wonderful. Sounds like you’ve got some excellent reading ahead… If you live any where near me, this is “curl up by the fire and read weather.” It is freezing outside. 😉

  5. I received gift cards for Christmas and now am blocked as I look at my wish-list that I have compiled all year. Yep… I have a long list to choose from. But I am in JAFF reading frenzy so it should be easy to pick something. Blessings on the New Year and much success on your writing.

    • Thank you so much. I appreciate that — especially as I have a manuscript due April 1st and need to get many many words down. 🙂 Happy New Year and blessings to you as well.

Your thoughts are precious!
