Romances from the Heart ~ A New Release and Giveaway

Romances from the Heart ~ A New Release and Giveaway

I’m celebrating a new audiobook bundle release this month. It’s titled Romances from the Heart: Darcy and Elizabeth Short Stories Collection 1.

In preparation for the audiobook’s release, I re-released Romances from the Heart in the Kindle edition on Amazon. Unlike the Kindle version, which is available only for a limited time, the audiobook is here to stay for years and years to come. Such is the nature of my publishing contract with ACX (Audiobook Creation Exchange) which lasts seven years at a minimum.

Not that I’m complaining. Far from it. Romances from the Heart is my twenty-third audiobook to-date, and all of them are narrated by Pearl Hewitt, an award-winning producer who is absolutely amazing. Her brilliant narrations add such rich layers to my stories. I’m eternally grateful that Pearl will be producing my next two audiobooks by yearend: Miss Elizabeth: Where the Heart Lives and By Reason, By Reflection, by Everything.

Three years ago, I created an infographic which highlighted my audiobook sales history. I wanted to capture how Audible listeners who owned my audiobooks made their purchases. I’m glad I did because it has given me a chance to compare how purchasing habits for my audiobooks have changed over time.

The 2014 infographic shows that 27% of the listeners who bought my audiobooks at that time were not AudibleListener members. Compare that figure to the 2017 infographic I prepared based on all of my audiobook sales to date, and you will see that percentage has dropped considerably to 20% which suggests more of my listeners may have become AudibleListener members.

In 2014, 35% of all those who bought my audiobooks were AudibleListener members who chose to use their membership monthly credits. Over time, a greater percentage of AudibleListener members have chosen to use their monthly credits to buy my audiobooks according to the 2017 figure: 39% in fact.

Finally, a larger percentage of AudibleListener members purchased my audiobooks without using their monthly credit: 38% as of 2014 versus 41% as of today. I attribute the jump to the availability of Whispersync for Voice companion narrations for only $1.99 in the US. Alas, the days of Whispersync audiobooks priced at under $2 are fading fast for many titles. The going prices now seem to be $7.49. Talk about an increase. At one point, seventeen of my audiobooks could be purchased for $1.99 each if the companion Kindle edition was previously purchased on Amazon. Now, it’s down to four: To Refuse Such a Man, Matter of Trust: The Shades of Pemberley, The Mission: He Taught Me to Hope Christmas Vignette, and Expecting His Proposal. Who’s to say how long it is before Audible increases the Whispersync price for those titles too.

Just in case you’re still on the fence about audiobooks, consider this: audiobooks provide a wonderfully engaging means of enjoying some of your favorite stories again and again. Plus, the Whispersync for Voice feature that I mentioned allows you to switch back and forth between listening to a story and reading its companion Kindle edition on your cell phone, your tablet, and your PC without missing a single beat. Whether you’re commuting to work, waiting at your doctor’s office, working out in the gym, cleaning the house or a thousand other things, listening to Mr. Darcy while you do so will surely make the experience infinitely more pleasurable.

From all that I’ve read, the demand for audiobooks continues to grow at a faster pace than eBooks as well as paperbacks. Indeed, audiobooks are here to stay. With so many Jane Austen fan fiction authors offering their stories as audiobooks, one of my fondest wishes is that all ardent JAFF lovers will become ardent audiobook lovers too.

  1. Congratulations on the release of your new audiobook Pam. I love Pearl ‘s narration, your writing and her performance match perfectly. ??

  2. Basically I can’t concentrate much if I don’t have the reading material in front of me to read the words. My mind tend to wander away and I might even doze off so that’s why I don’t think audiobook is meant for me. Just my two cents so don’t feel offended or anything, Pam. But thank you for the chance to win the e-book.

  3. I am so surprised over the number of audiobooks you have released. I was very interested in your charts as I have not listened to many audiobooks and none of yours. I enjoy your plots and would love to hear an audiobook. It must be wonderful to have the same voice for all of your books. Thank you for the giveaway.

    • You’re welcome! If you have read and enjoyed my stories, you will love listening to the audiobooks. Pearl Hewitt is amazing and she always makes my stories more engaging as well as more entertaining. 🙂

    • It’s my pleasure, Kate. Thanks so much for your kind words. I agree, Pearl is a great narrator. I can hardly wait to hear her renditions of Miss Elizabeth Bennet and By Reason, by Reflection, by Everything. 🙂

  5. I am starting to get into audio more but I still tend to go towards print or ebook. My reasons are mostly because I read more at night and have found myself falling asleep while reading and then waking up to the kindle app open to the page I was on.

    • Interesting point, Amanda. I enjoy listening to audiobooks using Alexa while in the office. Although tempted, I no longer listen to audiobooks using Alexa in my bedroom. I fall asleep but Alexa keeps on going. 🙂

  6. Thank you for the offer. I have several of your books and audiobooks. I really enjoy your stories. I like both books and audiobooks, but am partial to audiobooks because I can listen while I cook, clean and do the laundry.

    • It’s my pleasure, Lori. Thanks so much for enjoying my stories. I like reading about all the ways audiobooks are becoming more and more a part of everyday life. 🙂

    • Thanks, Becky. Twenty three and counting is sometimes hard to believe. I’m very grateful to be able to collaborate with Pearl on all my audiobooks to-date. 🙂

  7. Thanks for the offer, I just bought First There Is Love! I prefer audiobooks to physical or ebooks now, I work with my hands and I can listen to an entire audiobook in a day or two, versus only reading an hour a night with my kindle. Pearl Hewitt is an amazing narrator who brings your audiobooks to life!

    • It’s my pleasure, Heather. I’m delighted to know that you enjoy Pearl Hewitt’s narrations. She always amazes me. Thanks so much for buying First There is Love. I hope you’ll love the stories. 🙂

  9. Congratulations on your newest audiobook, Pam! I just bought “First There is Love”. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of “Romances from the Heart”.

  10. I started listening to audio books earlier this year. It’s a different experience but the narration can really bring the story to life. Thank you for hosting the giveaway.

    • You’re welcome. You’re so right. I’ve often found myself on the edge of my seat listening to my own stories narrated by Pearl Hewitt, waiting to hear what would happen next. 🙂

  11. I find I’m using audio more and more since I can cook, clean, drive or whatever while I listen. My husband gets tired of my having earphones in all the time though. But even worse is when he wakes up at 3:30 am to the sound of voices downstairs because I just couldn’t quite stop listening long enough to go to bed. Poor guy….
