A New Novel… Title Reveal

A New Novel… Title Reveal

I hope everyone had a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving last week – if you are here in the United States. I remember when living abroad, it was strange to be away from such a firmly established U. S. tradition – and such a yummy one.

But off to Jane Austen and her world of books…

portrait-of-emily-price_3_1-2The last time I was here, I was chatting about my new release A Portrait of Emily Price. Emily just launched earlier this month and still feels very new. But already my eyes turn to a new story and the publisher has just agreed to a title…

So here is the REVEAL…  img_5355

The Austen Escape

This story will launch November 2017. And while many things will change in editing – a process I am only now beginning – I can tell you a few things that won’t. This is a wonderful story about two best friends and an unexpected trip to Bath, England. There is a lot of Jane Austen in it, as the title implies, but it does not focus on any one story. Much like my other books, it takes a line here, a gesture there and presents the universality of Miss Austen in a modern context – for she truly is universal.

One of the reasons I love Austen and have returned to her time and time again in each of my five books is that she creates a common language for us, a touch point, and one that is spot-on and laser focused. Austen understood human nature and could reveal it with brilliance in a single line. She also gave us a firm sense of time and place in her stories, revealing characters through the spaces that surround them. Under her pen, the drawing room became a battlefield. Lizzy-Janedear mr knightley cover

I hope your drawing rooms/living rooms remain kinder and gentler places this holiday season and I thank you for stopping by here today to chat a moment of Austen.

Please let me know what you’re reading right now. While researching for The Austen Escape I got to peruse all my favorites again – and now that editing is beginning, I am sure I’ll be back into them soon. Perhaps I’ll begin with my favorite. Persuasion. What is yours?

  1. I am between books and trying to catch up on my e-mail. Much of it is comments to blogs. I want to read another Christmas related JAFF so will be looking for something. Good luck with the book.

  2. Persuasion is my absolute favourite Austen novel. I love Anne. I’m actually not reading at the moment as I’ve been ill and find it hard to concentrate. So I’m spending hours trawling through all the Austen sites that I love. I never normally have the time to do this.

  3. The Austen Escape is a wonderful title! I wish you all the best with your editing. May it go well 🙂 I’m reading Shadow Scale, the second book of the Seraphina duology 🙂

  4. My favorite is Persuasion too. I don’t meet many other fans who’s favorite is also Persuasion so I’m glad to know a kindred spirit!

    • Thank you very much. I just received my edit letter from the publisher — so the final push begins. Happy Holidays to you.

  5. Right now I’m re reading Denial of Conscience by Cat Gardiner as I now have Without a Conscience and like to read a series all together. I like the sound of your new book. My favourite will always be P&P and stories about Darcy and Elizabeth.

    • I agree about series… It’s hard to be left hanging. 😉 I agree about Lizzy and Darcy. There’s no one like them. Thanks for dropping by today.

Comments are precious!
