A book FINALLY finished, with a giveaway and a cover reveal

I did it. I finally finished Darcy’s Predicament. The third time was the charm, and I am so very excited to be able to tell you this.

I have done two other posts about this story. Each time, it was flowing well, but each time, the words suddenly stopped. I picked the story up again once I had Darcy’s Caution published, and at that point, the story came to me easily.

My portable plotting notebook for Darcy’s Predicament.

As I write this post, on Thanksgiving Day, I’m taking a break from editing Darcy’s Predicament. Editing is always very difficult for me, and this time is no different than any other. By the time you read this, I hope to have all the edits made and the formatting at least begun, if not completed. It should be published within a week of the formatting being finished.

To refresh your memory, Darcy’s Predicament began as a plot bunny from a reader. I don’t usually take up bunnies that other people share, but this reader very much wanted hers to be written, and I could not say no. The bunny was that Mrs. Bennet went into Meryton and overheard Wickham and the officers speaking badly about her girls, and Mr. Darcy finding her.

I first wrote that scene, and then wrote what came before and after. And, though Longbourn’s mistress was glad to know the truth, she was also embarrassed. That embarrassment led to her being angry with Darcy. So, even though he had ten thousand a year and Lizzy was in love with him, Mrs. Bennet did her best to keep them apart. That’s all I’ll say about the plot for now. I don’t want to give too much away. 🙂 As always, Darcy and Lizzy get their Happily Ever After. I can’t write anything else. 🙂

Darcy’s Predicament is on schedule to publish no later than twelve days from now, on December 21st. I plan to have both ebook and regular-size print versions go live as closely together as I can. The large print will come a few days later.

I mentioned a giveaway in the title, and I do have one again this month. This time, I’m giving away two ebook copies of Darcy’s Predicament. To enter the giveaway, all you have to do is leave a comment for me below by 11:59 PM ET on Thursday, December 12, 2019. This gives you four days, so hurry and get your comments in! 🙂

Please remember that winners won’t get their prizes until I have the book formatted and uploaded!

The winners will be announced on Sunday, December 15, 2019.

And now … the cover …

  1. The cover is lovely and the edits are nearly completed. Congratulations, Zoe!! This book sounds amazing, and I am definitely hoping to win a copy from your generous giveaway!!

    Warmly,
    Susanne

  2. Congrats, Zoe! You did it! Thank you for sharing the plot of your new novel. I look forward to the release because I think the premise is unique. I can’t be too sure but I think I’ve seen the models in the same pose used in the cover before. I do understand that there are very limited Regency stock photos to choose from.

    • You probably have, though not for mine in that combination and in that dress. Even Collette Cameron and I share models on our covers, and she’s a much more popular author than I am! LOL Best wishes in the drawing.

  3. Wow! Sounds like a very interesting story. I’m anxious to see where this goes–does Mrs. Bennet rein in her girls or ignore the obvious that they are out of control?? I’d love to win this book–thanks for entering me into the contest.

  4. Congratulations on finishing this book. I followed along as you posted on your blog. It will be fascinating to see how things are going between Darcy and Elizabeth. Thank you for the giveaway. Happy Holidays!

  5. Congratulations Ms Burton!! Lovely cover. Surprising Mrs Bennet meddling with EB and FD (angry with FD, eventhough he was not at fault. Eagerly awaiting its release. Thank you for the chance to win a copy.

  6. Zoe I love all your books. I always purchase yours because they’re go to’s for re-reads. Thanks for writing these great stories for us all.

  7. Love the cover!! You did awesome. Can’t wait to finish this one. You take as much time needed with editing. Your fans will wait. Ok, at least I will. If you happen to pull my name please pass on to next person. Thank you and Merry Christmas and happy New Years

  8. Lovely cover, Zoe. I love plot bunnies. They just pop up at the strangest times and some are vicious and will NOT go away until someone agrees to listen to their idea. Snicker… I am so pleased to see Mrs. Bennet finally hearing what men [the militia especially], are saying about her younger girls. Poor woman refuses to listen to anyone else. So, she’s mad at Darcy. Well, get in line, Mrs. B. Zoe, several people in your story seem to get their dander in an uproar. At least you agree that D&E require/demand their HEA. Whew! I can’t wait to read this. Blessings and congratulations on getting this baby published and I wish you much success.

  9. Oh my! This certainly sounds different! Poor Darcy, I can’t believe Mrs Bennet wants to prevent his marriage to Elizabeth? With all his money and her least favourite daughter? I look forward to reading it. Thank you for sharing this post and for the giveaway ?

  10. Hooray! Can hardly wait for the book to be available! In fact, I went to see if it was available for pre-order. Not there! Guess I’ll just have to wait to see if I win the giveaway … Thank you for the chance!
