Readalong Wednesday: Emma, Chapters 44 & 45

listen-to-the-silenceThis quote appeared in my Facebook newsfeed about a week ago.  It was posted by a page I follow called the Writer’s Circle. As I was contemplating this quote, I was struck by how this is probably my favourite part of writing Jane Austen Fan Fiction.  It is in the silence of Jane Austen’s work that I often find inspiration. As my readers know, I do not stick to what if stories about Darcy and Elizabeth. I like to think about the secondary characters and either what might have happened to make them as they are or what they are doing while main characters are getting on with finding their happily ever after.  I am finding that same pull to be popping up its head while I read through Emma.  My interest has been captured on several occasions by things that are not part of the book. They are part of the silence.  One of those silent moments happened in last week’s chapters and seems to be carried over into this week’s chapters as well.  If you read my comments in the discussion last week, you will probably already know what particular silent moment caught my fancy. If not, pop on over to the discussion this week and find out.  (That’s right. I am not telling you here. 🙂  You will need to…)
