Launch of A Walk in the Meadows at Rosings Park

Break out the champagne or sparkling water! Pop the corks! Pour the bubbly, and let’s celebrate. I am pleased to announce the publication of my novella, A Walk in the Meadows at Rosings Park, with a bonus short story. What is it about, you ask? Here’s the blurb from the back jacket:

The day after the assembly at Meryton, Fitzwilliam Darcy departs Hertfordshire believing that he leaves little of interest behind him. But when Elizabeth Bennet comes to Kent, Darcy has an opportunity for a second look at the dark-haired beauty, and he is instantly smitten. Unfortunately for Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth has a long memory, and the gentleman from Derbyshire will have to earn her love. His efforts begin with a walk in the meadows at Rosings Park.

Bonus short story: Mr. Darcy Steps In. When Darcy learns that Mr. Collins plans to make an offer of marriage to Elizabeth Bennet, he knows that he must do something to save her from such a fate, but what happens next is completely unexpected.

Both the novella and the short story are light-hearted, humorous Pride and Prejudice re-imaginings that are meant to put a smile on your face.  As part of this launch, I will be giving away two copies of A Walk in the Meadows at Rosings Park.  All you have to do is leave your e-mail address and answer the question: When Lizzy met Mr. Darcy in the park after his awful first proposal, should Lizzy have kicked him in the shin? That’s it, and you’re in. It is open worldwide. The winners will be announced on August 24th.

Because the newspaper headlines have been so grim of late, I have priced my book at $1.49 on Kindle and Nook. I can’t do the same for the paperback because it’s so much more expensive to produce a print copy. But, at $7.49, it is as low as I can go without my junior partner (Amazon) clapping me in irons.

Before I go, I would like you to know that the cover was designed by my daughter, Meg, and she used butterfly wings for the background. Isn’t that cool?

Congratulations Mary!!! I have already downloaded the book just waiting for time to actually sit and read. I have no doubt that like ALL your other stories, this one will be equally as wonderful!

  • BeckyC says:

Mary, congratulations on your release! How exciting! And two for one. This is already in my wish list on Amazon, but I didn;t realize there was a bonus.

The cover is beautiful. Meg did a great job!

And as far as the shin kicking…no physical violence necessary

Congratulations! I loved the story! You do a fantastic job writing stories! I have the kindle version, would love to have it in paper. Meg did a nice job too on the cover.

I’m so glad Elizabeth did not kick Mr. Darcy in the shin! But then, I don’t know, a little physical altercation might be interesting….hmmm…something to think about. You, not me, you’re the writer.

Congrats, Mary. I love the beautiful design on the cover. Your daughter, Meg is very talented.

I think Elizabeth should not use force to get her point across since she is a genteel lady. So no, she should not kick Mr Darcy in the shin or anywhere else.

  • Fabulous congratulations, Mary! Celebrate the birthday of your newest book!!! :-)

  • Lisa Lynn says:

Congrats! :D It must feel so amazing to finally have your book published!

In regards to the question, I think Elizabeth was too shocked by the fact that he even proposed! After the way he treated her, and then to have him say he loves her and wants to marry her? I would be absolutely flustered, but I don’t think Elizabeth would kick him. Just use very strong words, haha. Which is what they do best!

  • Jakki L says:

Congrats, Mary! I wish you many, many sales!! No, I do not think Elizabeth should have kicked Darcy. I think she is a better combatant with her words! Plus, no gentlewoman would kick a man for proposing (well, maybe Mr. Collins to get the point across).

  • Amy P says:

Lizzy already did so much damage to him verbally, kicking him in the shin would have just been adding insult to injury–or injury to insult, as the case may be. It is funny to think of though.

  • Mark Moore says:

While I have enjoyed some scenes where Lizzy has slapped Darcy for inappropriate behaviour, I just can’t see her kicking him in the shins–that’s more like a child throwing a temper tantrum.

  • Margay says:

I’m with the consensus. I don’t think she should kick him, either. That’s not her way.

  • Bonnie Carlson says:

Just got mine, Mary. Can’t wait to read it.

  • Thank you for all your comments. I wasn’t serious, you know, about Lizzy kicking him in the shin. However, what if she tried to do just that and lost her balance? She would fall down, and of course, Darcy would help her up. She would be unsteady, and he would have to provide the necessary support. As she limped back to the parsonage, she would be in physical contact with him, and once she felt his arms around her, she would start to melt. He would feel it too, and he would apologize for his behavior. Lizzy would accept (after another tongue lashing–but this time, gentler). Darcy would again propose, and they would find a secluded place in the garden and … That’s up to you.

  • Marilyn Brant says:

    Huge congrats, Mary!!!!
Yay on this release — it sounds wonderful and I’m thrilled for you!

  • Coleyboley says:

Very nice! I just bought it for my Nook.

  • Anna says:

    Congrats on the publication!!

I don’t think she should have kicked him. Her words can be sharper than any pain inflicted to his shins.

  • I agree that Lizzy could really land verbal blows. That’s why we all love her.

  • Sandy Cook says:

Mary, on my way to Amazon to get the Kindle version right after I leave my comment. Love your stories and can’t wait to relax and read this one!

Don’t think our Lizzy would need kicking…she can do a pretty good job with her words.

    Congratulations!

  • Margaret says:

Your daughter did a wonderful job! The cover is beautiful!

Okay no kicking of shins but perhaps a classic slap across the cheek might have knocked some sense into Mr. Darcy. lol!

Thank you for the giveaway and congratulations!

Congratulations Mary – and kudos to your daughter! Very nice cover!

  • Monica P says:

    Congrats, Mary!

I also must say no to the kicking. Maybe she could just give him a papercut when she throws his letter back in his face! Lol Your idea of her slipping is pretty funny too.

I think it’d be absolutely hilarious if she *did* kick him in the shins, haha…Kinda like when Anne kicks Morgan Harris in the shins during his haphazard proposal in ‘Anne of Avonlea’ (the movie)

The cover is beautiful: well done, daughter!

  • Papercut? Love it. Thank you to each one who stopped by to celebrate my debut with me. You made it very special to me. :)

  • Kat says:

Loved it Mary (bought the e-book a few weeks ago) – it was an enjoyable pick-me up just when I needed a bit of a diversion! Keep up the good work – I’ll be continuing to buy your work, thanks. Only problem with e-books is that I don’t get to enjoy the wonderful covers!!!

  • Mary Simonsen says:

Kat, That’s true about the covers, and some of them are so beautiful! I think e-books also have everyone zooming past dedications. That’s too bad as well. Thanks for participating.

    Everyone, thank you so much!!!!!

  • Julie Freeman says:

I read this a few weeks ago and loved it!
As far as the “shin kicking”, I think it would have made it very interesting. Not in a bad way mind you. I think the sparks flying after that would have been epic!

  • Regina Jeffers says:

Like Julie, I read this a little over a week ago. It was fabulous!

  • Diana Birchall says:

This sounds quite lovely. Congratulations on your achievement!

  • JoanneMM says:

what a great question to have us answer!!
I definitely think she should have done SOMETHING rather than just fight with him with her words and simply just walk away in the end!

Wether kicking him in the shin (which would be quite hilarious in my opinion and I can definitely see her doing that) or stomping on his toes, it definitely would put emphasis to the pain she is feeling from his words.

    Hi Mary
I’m relatively new to the Pride and Prejudice fandom, but I wanted to congratulate you on your new book. Both stories sound like interesting little takes on situations with our favourite characters. I’m looking forward to reading more of your books.

I don’t think Lizzy should have kicked Mr. Darcy, but even if she should have been so inclined, he got out of there so fast I don’t think she would have had time  .

    Best Regards
    Karen

Wow I’m only 16 and in love with the greatest author ever Jane Austen! I would love to read your new Novella it sounds very interesting! I think she should have done something more dramatic than just her words. Where kicking him in the shin”sounds really painful and a bit over the top” I think she should have slapped him from right to left to get some since in to him and wake him up that if he was the last person on the earth she would not marry him.

Would Love to win it as I’m going to study English Litreture in college. Can’t wait to read it!
Lots of love to my Janett!
